I’m running because It’s time we take the safety of our community seriously. When I was a year old my father was killed by suspected gang members, and they never faced justice. I know how people in Escondido feel about public safety, and I’m prepared to do everything possible to ensure the safety of every single person in Escondido.

I’ll focus on changing the priorities of the police department, to get officers out of unnecessary situations and focus, instead, on addressing serious, violent crime; I’ll invest in social services that’ll help get people out of a life of crime, rather than perpetuating a cycle of arrests and recidivism; and I’ll help our undocumented community, so that they can feel safe enough to report crime, rather than demonizing them and letting them become targets.

For too long, Escondido has had a narrow view of safety, leaving many people out of the public safety conversation — and we cannot allow this to continue any further. We need to create more resources for our LGBTQ+ community, develop a program to address the sexual misconduct in our schools, and house our massive homeless population.
